What Happens After You Get a Dui?

W. Scott Hanken, Attorney at Law Team

Drunk driving gravely endangers yourself and other drivers. It also results in a number of legal consequences that can impact a person’s life in many different ways. Very Well Mind explains the many penalties of receiving a DUI conviction.

DUI can take a toll on your reputation. The initial arrest is considered embarrassing by many people, especially when it’s necessary to contact friends or family for assistance. You’ll also need to attend a court appearance at some point, which is where you’ll learn which penalties you’ll ultimately be subject to. For instance, fines are common with DUI offenses, even after the first offense. You’ll also run the risk of your driving privileges being suspended.

It’s becoming more and more common for people to lose their driving privileges, even after the first DUI offense. The amount of time you’ll lose your license for can vary according to state laws and other occurrences. For example, your blood alcohol content at the time of your arrest may play a role in the severity of the punishment. Circumstances surrounding your arrest will also be considered. If someone was hurt as a result of drunk driving or if you had a minor in your vehicle, the punishments will likely be worse.

You may also be faced with jail time. With or without jail time, you’ll likely be subject to a probationary period during which you’ll have certain obligations. You’ll be asked to meet with a probation officer, who will oversee your probation and ensure you’re meeting the terms. If you fail to meet the terms of probation, you may be sent to jail. You’ll also be subject to fines and other costs, which will be your responsibility to pay.

If I could give Scott Hanken 6 stars I would, I called 2 weeks prior to my court date with multiple charges against me, He gave me a great price for his services and got my charges dropped. I would personally recommend him to anyone needing legal services.
