Consequences You Face After a Dui Arrest

Consequences You Face After A DUI Arrest

After a DUI arrest in Springfield or anywhere in Illinois, the defense lawyer you select is suddenly your best friend until this crisis passes.

I am DUI defense attorney W. Scott Hanken, and for 35 years I have successfully handled all aspects of DUI cases, as well as felony DUI and aggravated DUI. Much of my knowledge of this part of the justice system comes from my background as prosecutor for Sangamon County.

And because I have prevailed against so many drunk driving charges against my clients, I know how to generate the best approach for each case. I develop a customized plan for clients based on their history with the law and specific facts of their case.

Decades Of Experience, Positive Results In DUI Cases

Here are just a few of the potential consequences you face after a stop for drunk driving:

Your first DUI can result in up to a year in jail. The secondary effects of a DUI charge could mean what’s called a “statutory summary driver’s license suspension,” which automatically becomes effective in 45 days if not challenged.

Financial consequences of a DUI charge can range from heavy fines to lost wages for court appearances, to missed work after suspension of a driver’s license. If a breath alcohol ignition interlock device (BAIID) must be installed in your car, all costs for installation and maintenance will fall to you.

Then there’s the matter of a DUI that’s considered a felony. Some of the factors that can cause one to be charged as a felony are:

  • Previous DUI convictions
  • A suspended license at the time of the arrest
  • No evidence of motor vehicle insurance
  • If your driving caused an accident that resulted in great bodily harm or death

If I could give Scott Hanken 6 stars I would, I called 2 weeks prior to my court date with multiple charges against me, He gave me a great price for his services and got my charges dropped. I would personally recommend him to anyone needing legal services.
